LUCY COLWELL

Lucy Colwell is a Senior Fellow in Higher Education and Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at the University of Brighton. She trained at the Nightingale Institute, Guy’s and St Thomas hospital registering as a mental health nurse in 1997. Her first role was as a mental health nurse on the Adolescent Unit at the Bethlem Royal Hospital where she continued her studies part time and graduated from Kings College London as a specialist practitioner in child and adolescent mental health in 1999.
In 2001 she moved into a community team in South London as a clinical nurse specialist, whilst studying at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London in cognitive behavioural therapies as well as working as part of a family therapy team.
Having moved to Hastings in 2004 she continued her work as a clinical nurse specialist in mental health and family therapy work alongside introducing therapeutic groups for young people and families. In 2014 Lucy combined her interest in education and mental health nursing to complete a fellowship in higher education, going on to take on the role of Lead Nurse for Education in a large Mental Health Trust prior to joining University of Brighton in 2016. Lucy has a strong interest in working towards bridging gaps between evidence and education practice to promote mental health, social justice and the practice of mental health nursing.
